Inspired by the "Vacation" Lenses thread on the D800/D800e forum what are D600 users taking with them this year?

I took my Nikon 24mm f2.8D, Nikon 35mm f1.8G and a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 to Paris with my D7000 in April despite thinking that the DSLR might be a pain on holiday it was actually fine.

I used a hand/wrist strip rather than a neck one and found it to be light and no hassle. I did find the Sigma zoom as good as it was to be too heavy to carry all day so mainly used the 24mm f2.8D which surprised me as I'd thought the 35mm would get most use!

I did decide that I'd like more "width" but I'm a big prime fan so opted for a used Nikon 20mm f2.8D which was wide enough for me on the D7000.

However since then I've decided to upgrade to the D600 for the improved low light performance, loss of the crop factor and larger MP images.

Next trip is 10 days in Milan, Venice and Rome and I'll be taking my new D600 along with my Nikon 20mm f2.8D, Nikon 24mm f2.8D, Nikon 50mm f2.8D and potentially a Nikon 85mm f1.8G for some extra width.

I can see me using the 24mm mainly as the lens is very sharp and I love the focal length, I'm not sure how much the 20mm will get used as its not wonderful on the D600 but will give me a wide option if I want it.

Also have a Manfrotto Befree tripod that will pack in the case, I can't see me lugging it but theres some specific shots in Rome that I'd like to get at night so it will likely get some use.

As a general rule I usually end up taking a prime lens and my cheap kit lenses in case they get damaged and usually take the D90 unless I know im going to need something else for a particular purpose.

Generally, the 24-120mm f/4 VR and a 50mm f/1.8. If I expect there to be areas that I need a wide angle, the 17-35mm goes in the bag also. At least one flash, and a CPL finds its way along as well.

Generally I take everything! Although with my recently purchased 18-35G I'll probably use that most of the time - at 24mm it rocks.....last year on hols I spent 2 days shooting candid shots and got a great buzz from it - so I'll try the 300mm this year and if it's too much hassle at least I'll know for the next time and keep it to 200mm.

Definitely bring your 85mm or longer if you have it. If you want to restrict to 3 lenses cut out either the 20mm or 24mm depending on which one of yours performs better on the D600 - 20mm would get lots of use in Venice & Rome:Angel:

D4 and D600 and 14-24 and 24-120 is my standard two body/two lense. Now since my backpack has more room generally the 70-200 2.8 and 24-70 2.8 and the TC14. Gets a bit heavy thru terminals but then again ready for everything . Oh yes, the iPhone5 for having something all the time

I've used one of three combos lately with the D600. I bring all of the lenses to the destination, then pick a kit depending on the day's activities.

1. D600 with 24-85 on a sling strap
2. D600 with 35/1.4 on a sling strap, 100/2 in a small bag
3. D600 with 40/2 on a sling strap, 20/3.5 and 90/3.5 in a small bag

If i would go on a holiday it would be my:

D600 + 50 1.8G and a 28 1.8G in the bag, maybe even my 85 1.4 depending on the scene I'm going to. Also a small tripod (tabletop model) and a couple of ND filters.

I've got two big trips coming up and I'm still deciding on lenses. I'll be taking both a D600 and a D7100 to cover all bases, so I have two sets of lenses to consider.

1) Colorado and New Mexico, July 17 - August 6: 24-85 on the D600 and 16-85 on the D7100. Since this is a driving trip and I'll have plenty of room, I'll probably take everything but the kitchen sink: 70-300VR, 300/4 + TC, 70-180 micro, 28-105, and some light primes (24mm, 55mm, 85mm, 135mm).

2) South Africa and Namibia August 28 - September 24. This includes The wildflowers of Namaqualand, the deserts of Namibia, and the wildlife of Etosha National Park and the Okavanga Delta. I'll take all of the above minus the 70-180 micro (to save space/weight).

This is a good thread to help me focus on these choices. I was planning on packing the gear for the CO/NM trip tonight.
