Hoverfly - Volucella zonaria

    I've been trying to get shots of these large (20mm body length) hoverflies for a while now. This afternoon I was shooting planes from the back garden when I saw this one on a flower bush. The larvae of this fly are scavengers in wasps' nests.
    I used the Sigma 70-300mm APO on the macro setting at 1:2 for this, because that was the lens that I had on the camera.
