Hoverfly with new Nikon (to me) 60mm AF-D

I was lucky enough to be given a Nikon 60mm AF-D macro lens for free recently. I usually use a Tamron 90mm macro. In comparison, the extra WD on the Tamron is a definite advantage for bug shots. Sharpness is the same between the two as far as I can see, but the Nikon gives more contrast and colour straight out of camera. I always shoot raw, so I can easily tweak the Tamron shots in PP to match. The Nikon also is a cracking portrait lens.

Some shots with the Nikon 60mm macro with a Kenko 1.4 TC to give some extra WD.

Thanks dossy, Kodiak, Don, William and Chad.

Kodiak, if I upgrade the Tamron 90mm, it will be to the Sigma 150mm or Tamron 180mm. The Nikon 105mm VR does not really offer me much more over the Tamron 90mm IMO.

Hi Mike,

At this point, considering you skills as well, I would eyeball in the direction of the
new Nikkor 105 micro (I just got it this spring!). A great tool as well!
+1 The 105VR is a spectacular macro lens, which can also be used as a portrait lens!

Beautiful shots!

If you want more WD, then the Nikon 200mm f/4 micro is the way to go.
