Is there an easy way to convert this gray square to match the outside circle? I tried a blending change but the only thing I come up with then is the gray goes behind the circle.

If the grey square is on a seperate layer then using the elliptical selection tool start from the centre of the guide lines and drag and while holding Alt+shift(PC) the selection to cover the circle.

With the selection made you will need to invert the mask - Select/Inverse then either delete or click add mask and hide the rest of the square.

You should now have a circular quarter segment in grey top left with the white circle below

I would probably use either a clipping mask across 2 layers or create a path for the outside of the circle and then use a fill in the path and convert the path to a selection.
