I'm looking at a nearly new Gitzo G1327 Mountaineer MK2 Carbon Fiber tripod. I've never purchased a high quality tripod before and don't know much about the different brands. Is Gitzo generally considered a good product? Is anyone here familiar with this particular model. Thanks.

Gitzo 1325 served me very well! Among the best, if not the very best legs.

I recently sold mine to a Cafe member only to buy the Gitzo 3530LSV 6x legs:

If you are buying NEW, buy the 6x style for its anti rotation legs - much faster to setup and take down. And lighter weight. If you are buying preowned, the 1325 is awesome, and you will love it.

How good is Gitzo? After enjoying the 1325 I never considered another brand.

I second the gitzo 1325...I love mine!!
I wish I had the new one with the anti-rotation legs...that is the only drawback that I have.

I purchased the 1327 used from a NC member here recently. Just took it on a trip to AZ and UT it was a CHAMP through water, heat, sand. I would buy another in a heart beat. People complain about the leg opening mechanism but it's really not a big deal in my opinion

I use a 1327 without the column (replaced with a Markins plate) and a Kirk BH-1 or Wimberley gimbel. The 1327 is a bit taller than the 1325 but otherwise it's the same legset. Either is a good choice, shop price unless you particularly want the column.

Another vote for Gitzo. I also use a 1325 (actually a 1329 with the center column removed) and it has performed like a champ.

I'm the guy who bought John's G1325  - best darn legs I've ever seen. I use it with my D2x and up to my Nikkor 400mm prime, at times with a 1.4 or 2X extender - all with excellent stability and results.
