Guidelines for image dimensions and file size for posting in image threads:
  • If you are uploading to image threads using our direct upload method, there is no limit on image dimensions (will be automatically resized to 1600px if necessary), and the file size limit is 50MB (will be compressed automatically).
  • If you are hotlinking (embedding) an image in a forum thread which is externally hosted (stored) on a site like Flickr, Smugmug, Picasa, Zenfolio, Facebook, etc, please keep the image maximum dimension to 1600px and file size maximum to 1MB per image. This helps to keep the threads speedy for members who aren't on high speed connections.

From Flickr

This is a step-by-step instruction on how to post from Flickr, and is accurate as of February 2016. If Flickr changes its format again, all bets are off. You might have to be logged in your Flickr account to see the sharing options, depending on the Photostream options.

1. Find the sharing icon at the bottom right corner of the image and click on it.

2. You will see this window for grabbing the code. Select BBCode first, then select the size of the image to post.

3. Copy the entire text in the code window

4. Paste the code in the NikonCafe message window. Do not use the IMG tags, as these are already built into the Flickr code.

5. Repeat this process for all the images you want to post.

Here is the final product:

From Picasa

1) Open the photo you want to post.

2) On the right lower corner under the photo info, there is a chainlink icon 'Link to this Photo', click on it.

3) Check the box 'Image Only'.

4) Choose the size of the image you would like to post (Default is thumbnail, you might want to choose 'Large').

5) Highlight and copy the URL string under the box 'Embed image'.

6) Click on the 'Insert Image' icon and paste the link.

Added Note: Picasa uses three security options to protect your images from unwanted viewing. Once you open an album, there is an 'Action' button under the album name. The first option would be 'Album Property'. Click on that to open up the property window. At the bottom of the property window, choose 'Public...' or 'Limited...' on the 'Visibility' option.

1. Go to the photos section in your Facebook account.

2. Select a photo to display it at its full size

3. Right-click on it and select "copy image location"

4. Either paste the link into the image box or embed it between the [img] and [/img] tags like this:

[IMG]https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13198587_1702876609995221_2372515923288192744_o.jpg[/IMG]

It's not possible to change the size of the image when posting here, so the linked image will be the same size as in your Facebook page.

1. Navigate to the image to post and click on the "IMG" link to copy the BBCode text to the clipboard. I didn't see a way to change the size of the image, so it will be posted with the same resolution in which it was uploaded.

2. The copied text will look something like this:

[URL=http://s582.photobucket.com/user/Mike66GE/media/Misc/EphesusLibrary2a.jpg.html][ATTACH=full]1531074[/ATTACH][/URL]

3. Put the cursor at the desired insertion point in the body of the post where you want the image to appear, and paste the text. Do not use the image tags or the image icon when pasting the link. Here is the final image:

Direct method, works from any device:

1) Either drag the image(s) to your message (post) or use the "Upload a Photo" button (right next to "Post Reply") to select your image(s).

2) Use the appropriate "Click Here to Insert Image into Post" button depending on whether you want to insert all images or one image into your message.

Images greater than 1600px will be automatically resized. EXIF data is preserved, and files are lightly compressed in order to keep pages speedy.

There is no limit on the number of photos or total storage used by photos when you upload to forum threads in this way.

--------------

Details on our image processing for files uploaded to our server using the above method:
  • Anything posted at 1600px or less gets processed with jpegoptim quality 90.
  • Anything over 1600px is resized to 1600px using Imagick resizeImage, filter Lanczos, blur factor 1, followed by Imagick unsharpMaskImage (0 , 0.5 , 1 , 0.05), followed by jpegoptim quality 90.
I experimented with a lot of different settings, filters, etc, before settling upon those as a good compromise.

Hint by Wally (soxOZ)

Open your image in Shutterfly, right click on image and select "copy image address"...
Then in the Nikon Cafe click on the Image Icon in the edit menu (small square with mountain & sun), and paste the image address...
