I tried a roll of Efke IR820, I'm not so sure that I like it, it may have something to do with the developer I used, Rodinal 1:25. Very grainy, I liked the IR effect, butnot the grain. I exposed it at EI 4 with an R72 filter. Leica M2, Nokton 35/1.4

Michael, something is wrong.
Efke 820 shouldn't be that grainy.

Did you turn on the scanner's ICE by accident, perhaps?

Here's an example of the same film. Granted this one is 6x4.5 but the grain structure still should be indiscernible even in 35mm.

I have a Minolta ScanDual IV, software is VueScan, OS-X Lion. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm not happy with the "artistic" results. :frown:

I've a couple of ideas, and agree with Will that it should NOT be that grainy! That actually looks like scan-enhanced grain alias, rather than actual film grain.

Looking at the negatives them selves, are they very thin? If so, they are under-exposed and/or under-developed. The other is the developer itself. Rodinal 1:25 will enhance grain, so perhaps use a different developer with this film.

Here is an example of Efke Aura developed in HC110:

Efke IR820c @ ASA 1,5 developed in Rodinal 1:25 for 9min is very very nice.
ASA 4 is far too little exposure. My impressions of the film swung 180º once I started exposing better.
Rodinal 1:50 for 15min is also very nice for ASA 1,5

EDIT: My EFKE IR820 review HERE
