Thanks Sickboy

Your pictures made me order one.
I cannot wait to test it.
I hesitated because I already have the Zeiss 100 mm which is very nice for portraits but I think I will like the Samyang which seems to be very nice and sharp wide open and which has a nice rendering for portraits.

Hi,

there is no need to get a Samyang when you already have a Nikon 1.4/85 mm of course.

But for me, it's a good choice: I don't use 85 mm that much, but when I use it, it's wide open. The image quality is better than the 1.8/85 AF, which already costs more. The Nikon-Version is double (used) of triple (new) the price of the Samyang ...

It's worth to be considered if you don't already have another version.

Regards

Very nice but the bokeh isn't quite as good as the Nikkor.

Bruce
How can you say that? Did you compare them?

I don't think the Nikkor could handle this background better, it's already very smooth.

Hmm. Very interesting lens

Owning the Nikkor version, from the photos, I think the bokeh not quite as smooth, it's a tiny bit less dreamy. But who cares, the ladies look nice

On FX the bokeh should look more creamy.

I have the Nikon 85 F1.4 and at first glance, the bokeh on this one seems to be at least as good.

Great deal indeed....

what is a Samyang brand? Ive never heard of it.
South Korean manufacturer. Its lenses are sold under numerous brand names like Samyang, Vivitar, Bower, etc.

The manual focus Samyang 85/1.4 looks like an excellent deal. But I require auto-focus so I love my Nikon 85/1.4.
