Looks like I have the disease that seems to afflict all in here eventually!
Strange, I had hardly any bird shots before coming here!
Guess my new year holds Long Lens Lust for them BIF shots!
Tokina 100-300 ATX F4 handheld @ F8 1/160 a much underated lens in my opinion

looked at the tokina also... how is the focus speed on it.. and how does it react to low light??? and have you tried a teleconverter on it yet?? would really like to know.. making my purchase in the next week or so..

    Thanks Tim

no cure for the disease.. except keep shooting them birdies..

Hi Tim, I find it to be a great lens, It replaced my Nikon 300mm f4 IFED after I spent weeks testing them back to back. I believe it to be just as sharp, fast and maybe even slightly more usable than the Nikon even before taking into account the 100mm end. I use it with the Kenko 1.4 300 DG and find any quality loss barely discernable. It does hunt now and again in low light situations but then so did the Nikon. I should also point out I am no expert and there are many who will be better placed to conduct extensive tests.
I merely know what works for me.
  6. Nice capture!

So I'm not the only one - I just joined the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society
  7. Gorgeous shot.....be careful it is more expensive than a drug addiction!

Very nice Chaz. I'll second the warnings -- this is a very addictive and expensive pastime, but you probably already know that.

    Hi Chaz -

Glad you've caught the disease, but you should know that there is no known cure. When I first read the top line of your post I thought you were naming a new species. What is this beautiful little guy? Your photo of him is excellent!
