If you know what it is please let me know. I've seen Sand Pipers and Killdeer on the beach but I don't think I've seen this one before.

It takes its beak and jams it into the small mussels, forces them open, and takes the inside for a snack.

Ruddy turnstone (on this side of the Atlantic we just call them turnstones). They are real scavengers of the shore.

Thanks for the ID.

This one was found in South Eastern Wisconsin along the shores of Lake Michigan (one of the Great Lakes).

Yep, I caught these guys for the first time a few weeks ago. They didn't seem to shy and they let me get fairly close.
