I rented a 70-200 AFS-VR

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by Paul Dunlop, Sep 30, 2008.

  1. So I rented a 70-200 for the weekend
Pick up Friday Afternoon - return on Monday by 11am
    Cost - $40 + tax

I hit the zoo from 10-2 on Saturday - shot a Hockey game from 3:30-4:15 that afternoon

Carrying the lens at the Zoo for 4hrs was a chore...
I had my monopod with me, but there is no getting around the fact that is weighs a lot
For hockey, it wasn't an issue at all - it worked great

Will I buy this lens? I think so - but I think I will be picking up a Sigma 70-200 II first - we'll see how it goes

BUT I had a great day, and here are some of the pics

Sweet. Bet you wanna buy it now don't ya!?
  6. There's a cure for the weight issue. Once I purchased the 300 2.8, my 70-200 feels like it weighs nothing.

    They have hockey in ON?

They look like squirt age. My son used the same kind of CCM stick last year that the kid in the blue jersey in pic 8 has.....

Did you use flash for the hockey pics?

I just got mine last week... Love it already!
  9. Hey, Paul,
I love my 70-200! And I can see that your love affair is juwt beginning. It is a very sweet lens and it captures such a great range of shots that it will quickly become one of your favorites... that is, when you buy one... which I suspect won't be long from now!

If the NAS hasn't struck big-time yet, it will momentarily. Good luck... and keep posting lovely shots like those above.
  10. Paul,

Renting a 70-200 (or a 300/2.8, they are also available in town) is the first step on the road to ruin.....

    Nice series.
  11. Thanks everyone
Yes I want to buy one now - I have been looking at a new Sigma 70-200 II - but they are $1099
I have 'upsold' myself to now WANT a used 70-200 for probably 1400-1500... early next year I hope

Yes I used flash - first time actually, to see if the 1/200 would limit me too much for action - it was OK - but I won't use it every time

This is a Minor Peewee White team - so mostly 11 year olds - my boy is 10 though (he got a bump up this year!)
