I purchased th 70-300 VR from B&H today. I had debated stepping up for the 80-200, but thought I'd miss the 200-300 range and also don't need a fast lens for sports or action. The pictures of the 70-300 VR have been impressive so I'm looking forward to locking this thing on my D80.

Plus, if I get some fast glass lust I've been admiring the 180 2.8 prime (thanks Uncle Frank) and might add one of those later.
  2. There have been some really nice shots here with that lens. Now the fun part...waiting! Be sure to post some pics and let us know how you like it.

Congratulations! You will LOVE the 70-300 lens!!

Now, let me plant the next "lustful thought..."

Down the road, buy a D200 and keep your D80 as a 2nd body. The weight of the D200 balances perfectly with the 70-300, while the D80 balances extremely well with the 18-200, which you may want to add to your collection while you are at it... :131:

Congrats on a great lens purchase. You will NOT be disappointed!

Thanks for all the comments. I'm really excited to put the 70-300 in the bag - or more pointedly - on the camera.

One question, has anyone used this for macro work...possibly with extension tubes? I'm thinking my next purchase will be a macro lens. My 35-70 has a macro mode but isn't a true macro lens. I know the 70-300 isn't either but I'm hoping it might hold me over for a bit.

    Thanks again!
  7. Get a Nikon 6T if you can find one. Seen some very nice results though you may need to get used to using a tripod even though the lens has VR.

So here are my first shots with the new lens. Whaddya think?

I'm pretty pleased. I only added a bit of saturation and a bit of sharpening...no USM.

Awesome -- I debated between the 70-300 VR and the 55-200VR and chose the 55-200 VR based on price point. you'll have to update your signature with your new addition!
