I was camped out at a pond before dawn this morning, hoping to get a shot of the incredibly beautiful hooded merganser who is hanging around at the moment...but of course he didn't come anywhere near me.

A little cute bird did fly within range but I haven't a clue as to what it is?

This was shot at ISO 800 and 1/60 (I had to underexpose it just to get this shutter speed) with the X and a 500 AFSII and TC14EII.

Can you enlighten me as to what type of sparrow / finch this is?

  2. Jim,
That is a chipping sparrow, I am fairly certain. Nice capture.

Sure is a cute little guy. I like the set up of the branches.

I'd call that a very good job of dealing with the available light. Sometimes I'm more proud of the ones that I have to really work to get than the easy ones in great light. You should be proud of this one.

Looked at this shot several times this morining.
Wow can't believe you saved it or even got it consdering what you had to deal with it .............. good work

JMHO is that maybe a tighter crop on the right by the little branch might help even more.
  9. Makes a great screen saver. even leaves room for icons at the left. Mind if I use it?
