I think I found it in Sibley's - a Ruddy Duck? On page 103 it lists a Dark Ruddy as being rare.

I was using some bird ID sites today, some of which I have saved in my bookmarks.

I've just had a look for this fellow and the nearest one I can find is a Female Lesser Scaup.

May well be wrong though I'm not having a good bird day today:frown:
