If the Marketing Guy Knew ...

  1. Here's a shot of part of the ceremony before today's baseball game between the Seattle Mariners & the Texas Rangers. There were some presentations, most tied into the Jackie Robinson anniversary, and one of the involved Nikon (a big sponsor at Safeco Field) presenting some cameras to a grade school. Nice piece of marketing.

But, let's look closely at the camera strap of the team's photographer (right, in gray) ... ???

HAHA Reminds me of my days of playing professional paintball.

We would win tournaments sponsored by competitors of our team sponsors, so when we would go up to receive our trophies and awards, we would purposely wear our sponsors clothings, display their banner, etc!

As they say, don't bite the hand that feeds you

Now, as for your photo, are you sure he is the team photographer or is he there from one of the local papers? I wouldn't think with the amount of sponsorship Safeco has from Nikon, that their team photographer would be using a Canon... BUT, I have been known to be wrong before.
  3. I seriously doubt the local papers would stoop to a mere "grip & grin," but I can't be sure. However, considering how he was walking all around the field unescorted, I'd bet on him being the "company guy."

Yeah, this sponsorship stuff can get crazy. Today we had the NASCAR Pre race show "powered by the Home Depot" from the Lowes Motor Speedway ... and then I watched the F-1 race on Speed. They had a run through of the track, a segment sponsored by BMW complete with a BMW logo, but they used the camera from a McLaren-Mercedes car!! (Especially odd since BMW does have an F-1 team ...)

    Go Nikon:>)))
  5. Nice, I have seen the sponsership stuff first hand too, but maybe they have more than one team photography, maybe this guy was just learning ;)
