I found this family (one adult and two owlets) in a tree outside the Kane County Courthouse. All images taken with a D2H, 300mm f/2.8 AF-S VR and TC-14 E II......handheld.

Great shots Frank! You did not waste any time putting these up, did you. My first birding outing did not go so well and the wind and the cold did not help either. I hope to do much better the next time I do any kind of birding ... first and foremost I have to order for good weather and the rest will follow.

Thanks everyone, birds are a wonderful diversion while waiting for the weather to straighten out for sports. The owls were so much fun to shoot.

Mike, your words could not be truer. After seeing Larry's 600mm f/4 lens, I realized that my savings account will need major surgery to close the hole if I bought something as beautiful as that. I'll have to settle for the 300mm and TC until I win the lottery.

Thanks so much, Andy. I really enjoyed myself yesterday and today. Flanked by Nikon Cafe members Papa85, Tomerrifc and Sonuj2, it was just the perfect little outing.
