Image Size S, M, L

Discussion in 'Nikon DX DSLR' started by pixel_a_ted, Jul 2, 2008.

  1. Does anyone know what the camera does when you select a particular image size? So for instance on the D70 the L size is 3008 x 2000 pixels and the S size is 1504 x 1000 pixels. To create the S size, does the camera just use every other pixel of the L size, or is there some kind of averaging/interpolation done? Thanks.

Interpolation yes, and most likely it happens already at the demosaicing stage to extract maximum quality out of the image.
