    Everyone,
How do I change the in-camera image ratio of a D3?

I've looked in the owners manual, but I can't find it. It's probably called something else.

Please help. Thanks in advance!

All the *real* pros are already out shooting...

    so I'll try:

I believe it's in in the Shooting Menu, "Image Area"

  3. Depress Fn button, rotate main command dial.

Neither of those work for me. The function buttion is assigned to bracketing.

In the 'Shooting Menu' I can only find image quality and image size.

    Please help.

  5. Image Area should be listed right below Image Quality and Image Size in the Shooting Menu. (pages 60-64 of manual)

I'm missing something. This is the way that my 'Shooting Menu' reads.

    Shooting menu bank
    Reset shooting menu
    Active folder
    File naming
    Image quality
    Image size
    JPEG compression
    NEF (RAW) recording
    White balance
    Set Picture Control
    Manage Picture Control
    Color space
    Active D-Lighting
    Long exp. NR
    High ISO NR
    ISO sensitivity settings
    Live view
    Multiple exposure
    Interval timer shooting

My Firmware version is A1.02 B1.00

It's there on mine. You don't happen to have a DX lens mounted, do you?

Yes. I just removed the lens. Everything stays the same.

How do I update my firmware? I'll look in the manual.

  9. If "Auto DX Crop" is "on" the Image Area selection is not available and cannot be used when a DX lens is mounted.

I just checked -- it's not available in the sense it's dimmed out, but it does show up in the menu at least...
