Insect I.D. please

Walking across the yard I found this fellow. I've seen them before but have no idea what kind of insect it is. I suppose it is a beetle of some sort. Upon sitting him down for his portrait he instantly assumed this position and kept it the entire time.

Jeff says it's a Stag Beetle. I thought the name had something to do with horns or antlers and was thinking it was called an Elk beetle or something like that. Wrong!!

Hi Jarrell, I have not seen one of those fellas in about 20 years, it is a Stag beetle. See link below, and last but not least, I absolutely love the shots - Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I really do have to make the 125 mile ride back to my daughters to get my camera case, that I walked out and left on the last visit. It has all the lenses for my dslr, well... I do have the 50mm... including the closeup stuff that would have been ideal for this...
