I have a friend who has a problem on his Vista based PC all of a sudden
When he boots, he can see his C drive but he can no longer see (or access) his "other" internal drives such as his build in card reader.....and I don't know how to help him

Maybe the driver or something got messed up ?
What can be done to correct this problem ?

Thanks in advance

Go into Device Manager and look for it there. That is also where you can update the driver for it.

You will find Device Manager under Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management

The device may have died, or it may have become unplugged inside.

Upgrading to Windows 7 might fix it, and would be a good idea anyway.

I had that same problem with my Toshiba Vista laptop. Constantly had to update or reload the same driver, and it was not just for a card reader. So, I cured the problem by relegating my Toshiba to my Hummer as a dedicated TOPO GPS device and purchasing a new laptop with Windows 7. And I have never had that problem again.

Not saying to replace a laptop, but I would suggest windows 7 to anyone who has Vista.
