Is this an Immature Red Tail?

Discussion in 'Birds' started by Gunnerisac, Jul 31, 2007.

  1. The screeching has been driving us nuts. Hidden in the woods of our back pasture we heard the typical shrill of a mature bird and then a broken lower pitched call of another.

Wae able to sneak up on them today and one took off immediately (mature shrill caller) the other allowed for one or two shots and then took off as well.

The feathers on the chest seem different. Is this an immature bird?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Paul

    It certainly is....

Note the two colored eyes...when they are adult, the eye color becomes much more of a single color.
  3. good catch Paul

I have no idea what type of bird it is, but I do like the photo. The way the bird is sort of hidden, makes it look really natural, like you are out bird spotting just looking at this photo.
  5. Jim -- Thanks for the info -- appreciate it.

Dave -- Thanks. Wasn't sure how it would turn out with all the leaves and shadows.

Sillybgoat -- Thank you -- The Cafe is a great place, isn't it! Knowledge and fun!
