Taken in my backyard. Look at the eye.
He was just fighting with some other bird for the female . Else than that I have no clue.
Yep he sure looks ill.. Poor fellow.
Could it be his/her eyelid like this in a Dove?
Although it does look a bit red.
True and well documented around these parts at least. I suppose it is common elsewhere as well! I could be wrong but that is what it looks like at least on the sparrow (I think that is what the bird is?)!

House finches get a certain eye disease called mycoplasma. It causes the eye to tear up, get swollen, and can cause death. If you see this at your feeders you need to take them down for a while and really clean them to help prevent the spread of the disease. Sorry. I've had the problem at my feeders, too.
