Thinking of camping out there for a nite or perhaps two. Star trails and painting is on my mind.

Any recommendation would be nice on a good campsite with rock foramtions and trees?

Hopefully, I could make it out there before it gets to hot. If anyone is interested please PM, lets plan a short trip.

According to the NPS site, there are 9 campgrounds in JTree.

I was there in December and camped two nights, one night at
Jumbo Rocks and another at White Tank.

Both have rocks and Joshua Trees.

You need to bring your own water, these two are dry camps.

Jumbo Rocks are near some interesting features, I took these shots
within walking distance from or within Jumbo Rocks campground:

Near White Tank is Arch Rock. I didn't get an image worth posting,
but if you're lightpainting, it's nice to be camping nearby.

Have a great trip. The rocks there are amazing.

Alvin, these are all great images, great work. Thank you for the info. I'll for sure camp at these sites. I looked the camp sites and they appear to be first come first serve, is there booth to check in.

Are the images above all from Jumbo Rock site?

Thanks again

Amir, I was just out there 2 weekends ago at Indian Coves campground. I had the same ideas on mind as you do, but I was foiled by the business of the campground. I would try one of the smaller, less popular spots if I was you, but just know that this time of year is one of the busiest: it's not too hot yet, and the wildflowers are blooming, so be prepared for lots of people wherever you go! I will try to post up some pics when I can...

Yes. The rock and tree are about 50 yds from site 19.

The marble rock and Joshua Tree shots are from the trailhead
to Skull Rock at Jumbo Campground.

The second shot is about a half mile walk along the trail to
Skull Rock.

You can also drive to skull rock and it's about 30 yd from the
road.

Arch Rock near White Tank is worth visiting and popular with light
painters.

Both Jumbo Rocks and White Tank had self check in booths. You find
a campsite then self pay for it. It's first come first serve. When I was
there right after Christmas it the campground filled up by nightfall.

Amir, with as busy as I suspect it's going to be, I would recommend reserving a site if you can for the campground you want... It's free to sign up for, and it will save some hassle. You will have a guaranteed spot (and I think most are site specific), plus you won't have to hassle with the self-pay booth. You are ready to go...

BTW, depending on when it is, I might be inclined to go again. I can do a Friday/Saturday again. Let me know when you are thinking. By late April, it gets pretty warm during the day...

Thanks for all the great info guys.

Shaun, that would work great if you could make the dive, camp out Friday and perhaps Saturday nite too and take off first thing Sunday after the Sunrise session. I'll send you a PM after I look at work calender and take the most craziest/busy day off. LOL
