An exact imitation of the Zeiss Sonnar design, the Russian made Jupiter-8 is a very enjoyable lens to use on a mirrorless body. It is extremely compact, it handles very nicely, reasonably sharpness can be achieved in the center of frame, and images have a vintage feel.

1. Out of focus backgrounds are fairly pleasing.

2.Bokeh bubbles are nice and round.

3. Edge to edge sharpness improves significantly by f/8. My copy appears to be slightly decentered as the left side of the frame is softer than the right.

4. Stopping down to f/11 and placing the edges further from camera improves apparent sharpness.

5. When strong light is in or near the field of view, significant flare can be expected. I postprocessed this image to accentuate the effect.

Beautiful rendering, Andy!
I believe there's quite some sample variation on some of the Russian lenses, from really good to so-so.
You seem to have found a good one.

I noticed that my copy is actually designated "Jupiter-8M" and a little internet research reveals that the M version sports significant improvements over the original. Title of the thread has been updated.
