I haven't been doing much birding lately, but on a recent trip to Maine, I did manage to capture this guy. It spent its nights in a small pond near the lake house we were staying at. I would creep as close as I could and patiently wait for it to swim by in the morning. Usually it would dive and pop up pretty far away (which annoyed me a little:smile:) However, one morning it decided to just hang out. Both were taken with the D3, 300 2.8, and TC20EII mounted to my Gitzo 1325/RRS BH55/sidekick rig. Even though these are full frame shots, I really need a 500:cool:

These are both very well done. Out of the two... the second would be my option for the better because of the water color. But at the end of the day they are both just fine images. Well done

I'm really coming to love loons. The green adds a nice contrast. well done.

I'm with Argent, i wish they would come around here. Oh well, a Trip to Canada doesn't sound so bad, either.
