Hi all,

I just got Apple TV... & I have a couple of questions....

1.) Any ideas why I can play a movie with the normal ATV remote,
but when I have the iPad play the same movie, I get an error that
says "The device does not support HDCP". Is the error coming from
the iPad, or the ATV, or iTunes???? It appears on the TV, and also
on iTunes.

2.) How does "AirPLay" come into all of this? I think I am a little fuzzy
on the role it plays...???

3.) Is there a way to setup iTunes to play only one movie at a time?
Mine seems to allow one movie on the ATV, and another on the computer?

4.) There is a selection for multiple speaker sets, how would one use that feature???

5.) Do any of you know where I can get a DVI to HDMI converter cable
that is female on the DVI side? I googled a few, but they all seem to be
male on the DVI side...?

FYI, At this moment, I can not see the movie and hear it at the same time
because... I bought a converter for DVI to HDMI but I will have to take it
back as it is simply too wide to allow the optical cable to connect at the
same time. Honestly, I think this is why I am getting the error mentioned
above...

Equipment info...
My TV is an older 50 inch rear projection unit that has a DVI input, and
the manual claims that the connection is HDCP compliant, and the
resolution is 1080i... But is has separate RCA jacks for (left & right)
audio in. I know that the newer HDMI coming out of the ATV carries
audio & video on the same connector.

1.
Like quick said you need to convert them to the correct format. I believe you have options when converting them for specific needs. I have the older version and I have mine set up with the component going to the TV and an optical cable running to the surround receiver and I get both picture and video.
4. If you go into iTunes you can set it to play through the speakers the Apple tv is connected to along with the speakers the computer has. You can make it do both at once or just pick one.

Hi guys, Thx for replying!

Here is an Update for ya...

#1... Never mind, I think I figured out what the problem was. User error, of course...
Once I got the audio and video, I was able to see what was going on. Seems like
the ATV was pausing when ever I unplugged the video adapter to plug in the optical
connector... Once I got a different adapter, I was able to do what I wanted to with
both the ATV remote and the iPad.
So it is all good now...

#4... OK, I got it now. I still need to tweak it for the way I want...

@ "Quick", The question never was about a conversion issue... But now that you
mention it, I have tried HandBrake and it does not work with several movies I tried...
Maybe I am doing something wrong??? Or I need a different setting...?

@ Bryan, The newer ATV version is soo small that there simply is no room to run an
adapter, or at least like the one I have, but I think I have got it figured out for now,
so nevermind.

Thx for your help guys!

No problem, I wasn't sure about the newer versions. Enjoy the apple TV.

Jailbreak that sucker and run XBMC. I bought an ATV2 for the bedroom as a cheap alternative to a HTPC and it works great. XBMC will play anything I throw at it.

I have decided to take the ATV back...

Several reasons...

1.) It will simply take too long to turn my dvd's into files for itunes to play...
(I have over 300 titles!) The previous version at least had a hard drive for storage.
I guess, Apple does not care about using the device as a media center or library.
I think they prefer that you to stream content that you buy from them, and not keep it around...

2.) I can access the same internet content via my Blu-ray box...

3.) With my current TV (which is 1080i capable) I can only get 480p out of the ATV,
(which is a well know issue) because I have to use an adapter to go from HDMI to DVI.

4.) I have tried several movie titles, both purchased and "borrowed" and can not
get 6.1 surround sound from the ATV... even when the movie is supposed to be...

5.) I don't like the fact that my desktop has to be on 24-7 so that I could watch a
movie without going into the computer room, turning on the desktop, and waiting to
launch iTunes, all just to watch a movie...

I am not going to give up on the concept, just have decided to wait for the next version.
