During my Washington trip last month I managed to drop my D300. As luck would have it, it landed on the corner housing the review button, denting it severely and jamming in the review button. The camera continued to take good pictures (amazing in and of itself) which I did for the remainder of the trip, but I couldn't review pictures after they were taken.
So when I got back, off the camera went to Nikon in Melville. I received a very courteous custom estimate based on my note (which required them to communicate with the factory,) and I chose to go ahead with repair of both the top casing and the button itself / internals. Since it was an accident I knew it wouldn't be covered under warranty (and it wasn't). But the repair, which I feared might cost half of what the camera did, came in much less than that.
Two and a half weeks after sending it, the camera is back good as new. Along the way, in addition to the repairs themselves, Melville replaced the LCD shield, upgraded the operating system, and thoroughly tested the camera. That is service the way it should be done.
This is my second experience with the Melville facility, and I can recommend it highly to anybody here needing work done.
Just thought you should know.
