Hash: I see a dramatic difference between these pictures and the ones you showed of the monastery. These are excellent and more in tone with what a photographer wants.
The lighting here is softer, skies are well exposed and saturated, colors are vibrant and from the visual design standpoint they are all well composed.
I hope you are using a tripod!

Thank you very much, Arto!
Camerapapi, here you are right, it was either morning or evening, so light was much softer. In the second set, two first pictures were shot by Canon S45 and last one by Nikon D60. I had tripod, but I did not use it then.

My son recently returned from a 2 yr stint in the Peace Corp stationed about 20km outside of Ulan Bator. He really enjoyed looking at your photos, but cracked that you were obviously there in spring or summer. He spent two winters there and the temperatures often fell to -35F in the evenings. He said he never got used to that kind of cold. It was even worse, he said, when he traveled to the extreme northern section of the country (on the Siberian border).

He described Mongolia as very similar to Montana; that is "Big Sky Country".
Even in winter - he said the skies were glorious blue and it seldom snowed significantly. Just plain old garden variety cold!

I guess, its definitely summer and I am glad that your son enjoyed the shots :) And I think he's right about the similarity as well. Some additional pics

Very nice! I don't know what I expected the Mogolian landscape to be - but it does somewhat resemble Montana!

Thanks!
