Lens Cap Photography is Making a Comeback

I saw one of these “photos” the other day on Instagram, my first impression was “what in hell is that?” I had a Nikon F in the 60’s and my only recollection of this type of photography was when I forgot to remove the lens cap. That was before social media happened, so this lens cap onphoto thing could have been happening and I wouldn’t have known. Seeing this is gaining popularity, and given my lack of expertise I think I might have just found my newest form of expression.

I’m hoping we don’t get a new “lens cap on” category in the “image gallery” above.

I do lens cap photography occasionally with my Leica M bodies. If I forget to remove the lens cap I won't notice it since the viewfinder does not look through the lens.
