I'm thinking about buying a new Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 ED AF-D lens. The HB-7 Bayonet Lens Hood is listed for it. Is there a better lens hood recommended for use on a DSLR (HN-?? or any suggestions)? I appreciate your advice.

  2. I'm pretty sure that is your only choice.

Pretty sure the HN-28 is the stock hood for the older push-pull non-D version. I own the non-D 80-200 and there is no lip for the twist lock HB-7 version. Thread only. The HN-28 will screw on to the D version though.

I have the HB-7 on mine...works well and is not that big really...the 80-200 with hood is actually shorter than the 70-300 with hood when zoomed out the 300. Here it is: 80-200 w/hood on left, 70-300 @ 300 w/hood in middle and 180 f/2.8 w/hood extended on right for comparison.

  5. What's really nice about the HN-28 hood is that it can be screwed in to my 77mm circular polarizer mounted on the lens. This also gives you something to turn it with. You cant get to the cir.pol. with the HB-7 hood without popping it off.
