  1. What is this?

This is a list of links to threads of example images - ideally over time we will get it down to 1 or possibly 2 threads per lens, but for now, we're just building up a list, and over time, the list will be fine-tuned. If you want to post some example images, to show the worths of a particular lens, it would be great, if you could contribute to existing threads, rather than starting a new one.

What should you post in the threads?

A selection of images showing the qualities of the lens. It may also be worthwhile to post a 100% crop from different areas of the images which are worthwhile seeing - e.g. for a particular problem with the lens (e.g. strange bokeh, peculiar chromatic aberrations, etc), or to show how good the lens is - e.g. great levels of sharpness / contrast etc.

How to get the thread listed
Please either post a message to this thread, or PM me, with details of the lens, the link, and whether it's a review, or sample images. Thanks!

  2. I just tried a search for 85/1.4 pictures. My search criteria was for threads with 85mm in their titles. I restricted it to threads in the lens lust forum that had at least 30 responses. The search engine returned 38 threads. It was pretty easy to cull through them and find threads with titles like

    From 2008: show me pcis w/ 85mm f/1.4...

From 2007: 85mm 1.4, show me your best shots

and even my own thread from 2006: Thoughts on the 85mm f/1.4 Nikkor

Our search engine may not be cutting edge, but it's useful... and paid for.

    Like mine

Am a amateur amateur, and love my Siggy 18-50 2.8. I can't do a pixel for pixel comparison for you as some people can. The things I like about the Siggy are the speed (max aperture and focus), build, and IQ. Unlike the two Nikon 18-55 and 18-135 lenses I had before it, this lens seems to always get the exposures right.

  6. PBase has a very nice feature that allows you to look up camera bodies and lenses. When you find the one you're looking for, it will show you several images that folks have uploaded shot with that particular lens. Of course, many folks on PBase don't take the time to actually edit each image to indicate which lens was used, but you still get a good variety.

Here's their list of all Nikon cameras and lenses they have documented.

I picked those because they're lenses I own, so it was an easy task of getting the links from my gallery.

i've seen the lens repository used here: http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum/index.php?

..combined with the amount of regular postings and nikon focus, i think it would be a great resource.

if i go to keh.com and search on sigma 10-20 it gives me a list of relevant lenses. if i search that same string here, i get absolute crap. which forces me to create a new post asking the same questions that have surely been answered previously.

not ganging up on the admins ..merely providing my input as a seasoned, tech savvy webinite.

  9. Ed,

You're doing a great job and I think we all understand this will take time.

I'm sure there will be many suggestions and ideas for improvement and that over time there will be refinements to the threads and presentation of the archives.

  10. Agree. Since Ed offered to take over this project we should let him proceed. I learned with many, many years of government service that when we try to accommodate every requirement from the get-go nothing ever gets finished. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "If we're going to do it, we need to do it "right." What follows is analysis paralysis.

My last few years we moved to process improvement. The basic approach is get it working, review it to see if it is meeting our needs, and then tweak it where/when necessary.

    Thanks for all your participation.

I think this is a great thing you guys are putting together. Let me know if there is any way that I may be able to assist.

  12. Thanks for the support guys - it will take a week or two, (also doesn't help that work is crazy busy), but I'll get there .

Can anyone do the Tamron 17-50 XR Di ?

  18. Can this be also the place where nicknames are kept alongside the lenses, like the thread The names we give glass? Just a thought, thanks, Tom.
