I've bid on ebay unsuccessfully on five different auctions for an 85mm f/1.8 Nikkor. Here were the ending prices:

$265
$275
$203.50 (damaged unit)
$292.50
$288.50

My high bid was $250. Since the lens can be bought new (gray market) for $319, I didn't think a higher price made any sense.

I ran across another auction today, and jumped on the buy-now price of $235.

Now I sit back and wait, and see if the pictures were of the actual unit... and if he leaves the UV filter on it. Can't wait :).

Frank,

I really want the 85 1.4 but I can't since I got the 28 1.4 WOW!

Hopefully I'll get some shots processed where I used that baby.

Thanks,

Like Patrick I have lust in my heart for the 85mm f1.4 but I have spent way too much already this year.
Yeah, the f/1.4 was first choice, but it's way out of my budget.

Hmm, I just noticed that I bought the non-D version. It's probably why the lens was so inexpensive. Does that means it's a very old lens?

What it means is that it doesn't transmit the distance info and you supposedlky loose full matrix metering.

I gotta tell you....I've owned both and I saw absolutely no difference between the images I captured. I bought a D while owning a non D assuming that there was going to be some huge improvement over and already great image. WRONG!

My only reservation is that Nikon stopped making non-D version in 1992. That means I just purchased a pretty old lens.
