Lens repair - tool to remove front element?

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by puddleduck, Aug 13, 2008.

  1. Hi folks

I picked up a 28mm AI and its got a bit of fungus. Ebay purchase, goes with the territory.

The lens is in nice shape, so I might see if I can clean the fungus. The lens has a couple of grooves which will allow me to unscrew the front element, clean and re-fix. Should be a two minute job with the right "ooja-ma-flip"

(it will never show in images so this is an academic exercise to see if I can!)

Does anyone know the name of this tool front element removal tool?

  2. Thanks Pedro, what a great link :)

Most people use the pavement I think (or a handy rocky outcrop if in the countryside)
  4. Fungus is highly contageous for other lenses. Limit their exposure...

The pavement or outrop sounds good, but if you have "all-peril" consider a bath (I've heard brine is especially good!)
