Lens sharpness test - FOUR moderately-priced wide/mid zooms for DX, FX

  1. I had a chance to four lenses for sharpness at their long end and a moderate aperture yesterday. Two were the sharpest (by reputation and objective testing) non-VR DX lenses, the 18-135 Nikkor, and the 17-50 Tamron. Two were the available moderate-priced wide/mid zooms for FX cameras...the recently discontinued 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 AFS and the current (but older design) 24-85 f/2.8-4.
