Let's gather some Miramar shots into one post....

Discussion in 'Transportation' started by Bandnuts, Oct 5, 2008.

  1. I thought it might be cool if we posted our Miramar shots in one location... I'm sure there were a number of Cafe members there (I know there were a LOT of Nikons in the crowd).

I don't know about others, but where I was sitting on Saturday, there wasn't much blue sky. I had a hard time getting both "the shot" and the background at the same time...  At least it didn't rain...

Here's some I picked out (in order of show appearance):

    Close work...

    F-22! What an unreal aircraft!

More of the 22... (I didn't want to photo while it was on, I wanted to WATCH!) It was that cool....

    Legacy Flight...

    Angels in close company...

    Vapor Angel...

    MAN they were close here....

Sorry, I had to add this one... A sample of the lines.. :Teeth:
  2. Here's some shots my daughter took with her D40 using a 55x200VR. She was taking shots off the my left, and managed to get some with better cloud/sky backgrounds.

    Cool trail....

F-22.. I swear this is good enough to be on the cover of a magazine. It looked like she was at 50,000 feet when the shot was taken. I think she
nailed it. I added some highlight adjustment and correct one small spot where the sun blew out a small section of the cloud.

    Legacy Flight...

    Closer Angels...

    The whole bunch...
  3. Great photos.......now was that fun or what!!!

    Nice Nice Nice!
  5. Thanks Ted.... Taking the shots was fun, those lines on Saturday were the PITS... It took us over 1 hour just to get back to the car from the exit sign.

Where some other posts... I saw more Nikons there than you could shake a stick at, shouldn't we be seeing more posts?

    Thanks Wade....

I love the Superhornet cone shot, those are tricky to catch.
  7. I was out there on Friday and had real nice skies that day... wispy clouds and some sunshine...

This was the 4th time I have seen the F-22 Demo. First I saw it was at Pt. Mugu in 2007 and it was not the full demo... They flew it twice that day since the F-18 was grounded...

It is one ridiculously maneauverable airplane... I especially like it when it does the back flip...

    BTW nice vapor...
  8. DIDN'T RAIN??? I'm guessing you didn't stay for the twilight show Saturday. I tried, got chased away by rain around 7:15. The T6 Texan was in the air and it started. I sat for a bit, then threw in the towel. I'm thinking I made a pretty good decision. As I was walking to my car the fireworks started, then the wall of fire went off (could see it from the main road). Two years in a row that I went for the twilight show to see afterburner passes, and I'm 0-2. Just my luck.

If I can figure out how to post images here, I will throw mine in.
  9. I miss that base.

    Great pics!
  10. Thanks Andy. I'm not sure tricky is the right word. I think lucky works for those shots...

Thanks Eric. I wish our sky was better Saturday, but you have to take what you can get. As far as the F-22 goes, I saw one of they fly for the first time years before it went into service. They had one fly into a base in Atlanta for some testing and I caught it as it was trying to sneak in under escort. I swear it can do what the bi-planes can do, only it's 5 times or more larger....

OMG, we were in our cars hitting the highway at about 6:45... Talk about timing. The Wife and Daughter both wanted to stay and see some of the evening "stuff", but we were way too worn out after being their all day.

As for posting pictures, it's not hard. There is a FAQ on it HERE. If that does not help, let us know what service you use to put photos online and I'm sure one of us will be able to get specific enough help to get you going.

Thanks Phil. It was a very clean and well set-up location. First time I'd been there. My 10 year old was VERY impresses. "Do all bases look this nice?" she asked.
