heh, don't get me started on AVCHD files. :Teeth: For video I picked up a Panasonic TM-700 camcorder which does spectacular 1080/60p video, except that nothing really supports that. I've been downconverting to 720/60p but keeping the source files hoping that one day everything will support that format better.
So how are the controls on the 3100? I don't think anything has really changed since the D40, right?
Controls are actually pretty intuitive, but menu-wise it still uses the D3000 and older menu layout which kinda sucks. It's like a GUI interface from the D200. You'd think they'd bring it more inline with the other bodies. Come to think about I think this body uses a very strong AA filter. I shoot jpeg with it and had to crank it up higher than my other camera bodies. The D3000 I owned prior to it was sharper out-of-box. I was tempted to get the D7000, but I prefer the D300 for work and the D3100 for home/wife.
Video-wise though it's great. I got mine used just a little more than $400 and for that price there is no other 1080P motion jpeg camera, either P&S and interchangeable lens bodies. Contrary to what is said, MF lenses aren't that bad with the D3100 either. While it won't meter it will indicate focus which helps. Plus if you know your lighting, it's no problem using MF. For video, the tracking AF is okay, but you get aperture control in A mode which is the best part. Better than Canon I believe which is totally automatic.
