1. Is anyone using or seen anything like this? It looks pretty nice for upclose
portraits and great for macro photography.

You can dial in your light setting as well. http://litepanels.com/

  2. Just saw an ad for these in my PC Photo magazine - pretty interesting

plus you can add gel filters to it

  3. From what I have read, 10 feet and closer is it's reach. No heat, since leds.
The only real negatives I read was the casing is plastic and the filter holder is a bit flimsy.

At 249.00 it is resonable. I may have to get one and play with it.

  4. It's still a small light source that will offer flat light, so I'm not sure how it will be any more flattering than my flash, especially when I can bounce my flash.

  5. The only plus I can see is the ability to dial up and down the light intensity.
I can see the potential to creatively play with some fill light.

  6. I've seen them used on video cameras. They are good for close work but light falls of quickly at a distance.

I like the look of the larger panels used for video/film (as a side-firing light to add fill/specular highlights), but not the prices!
