From this weekend outing with Tim O, the lighting wasn't to bad but during the best light we had to leave because of wading and netting taking place in our area.

D300 with 200-400, monopod, mid to later afternoon,

This one I decided to convert to BW for a change of pace on this head on shot.

  5. wade,
    these are fantastic
the b/w shot is great as well

    so....
my choice comes down to the 200-400 VR and the 300/2.8 VR
still not sure what to do

    Thanks Gary, appreciate the words

thanks David, these birds in the right light take care of the color.

    Thank you

You never will go wrong with either direction.

Have you thought about a 500VR? You have the 200VR and you should think about a touch more length, than the 200-400 or the 300 2.8. you would equal the 200400 almost with a 1.4, and 300 with a 1.7 attached, and you could add the 1.4 for 750mm.

    Seriously, ...think about it.....

Excellent set Wade. These are such goofy little guys, and so much fun to watch as they prance around, oblivious of anything but food.

You got that right, but it is funny, some batches are very skittish and wild, others, not so much, (they might have an empty stomach!)
