Long Neck Woman, Village on the Burmese Border, Thailand
D2H 24-120

These woman wear these heavy solid metal coils from an early age to give the appearance of extended necks (it actually lowers their shoulders) The older they get, the more coils they add. They wear them day and night. Dunno if I would want to roll over in the night and wake up next to a double coiled spring....

Real Name
Peter, this is a great photo!

Did you happen to see a recent documentary on TV that explored this practice. EXTREMELY painful for the girls. The woman seems to betray a memory, possibly suppressed, of the pain. And for what? Her eyes tangibly ask us to accept, no, even desire her, and yet realize that her interaction with your camera will be over in a sixtieth of a second. Like I said, it's a great photo.

(Of course other cultures look at our high heels and nose gems and probably don't get it either.)
