I Went to the pond yesterday morning. The weather was nice at home but a bit breezy at the pond. My kayak was bouncing around (for want of a better phrase) and so were the loons. It made it quite difficult to keep my focus point on the loon. I had many oof images.
For some reason the mother and chick stayed in the shade which did not help any.Besides high ISO the contrast was not good.
So why am I posting? I am not sure. Perhaps to show the D850 did quite well at high ISO. I did use nr.

1. Even the color of the water is bad.

2. Chick is around 18 days old. It had just come up from a dive.

You came out a winner, awesome shots, bad day or not.
Don't see much wrong with these images Allan. Amazing ISO, again I'd say you did quite well.
Are you kidding? Those shots are amazing, especially the second one!
They do look better to me as time passes. When I was shooting them, I was thinking of poor condition which led to many oof shots.

But the IQ is not what I like either. See these.
