LR, Aperture, others? Questions from a Newbie

Feb 28, 2009
Hello and and all, and thank's in advance for your feed back and guidance. I a m finally at a point that I want to take the plunge into post processing, and am trying to decide between LR, Aperture, and others (Capture one comes to mind).
I know that LR has a huge following, but the recent direction that Adobe had taken with CS and the CC concerns me regarding LR. I know that there is no crystal ball, but I have have no interest moving to a monthly fee for service with LR and being locked into a cloud based system for my files etc.

Aperture has it's warts as well: no clarity from Apple if they are going to stay in the game in a meaningful way, lack of lens profiles, etc.

All that having been said, what advice would you give to someone, starting from scratch, when choosing a program to do handle their raw conversion, post work and cataloging?
