LR5 beta is really a beta

Jan 13, 2006
First i realize that LR5b is only intended for test purposes.
But,i wanted to see how beta,LR5 beta really is.And it was an excuse to power up my old Macbook pro that's been siting in a closet.
The machine:
Macbook Pro 4.1(2.4 C2D,4gb ram,500gb hybrid hd,running ML)
The files:
1gb folder(20% raw,80% jpeg)
Reboted the Mac on both runs( it showed 3.3gb ram free)
Created a new catalog on both LR4 and LR5b.
Imported the files with minimal previews.
Them exported all files.
80% quality,1800px long edge.
With LR4 the ram never went bellow 2gb free.
With LR5b 25mb ram free and 3.5 gb page outs.
With this light workload LR4 used 1.2 gb of ram and LR5b used almost 7gb doing the exact same thing.
That's one of the reasons why Adobe doesn't allow catalog upgrades on beta versions.
The only problem is Adobe definition of beta.
For some LR4 is still in beta stage.
