I just go the new 13" MBP base model. Would going to 8 MB memory make a noticeable difference in operation?

Also, if I do upgrade, would I have buy a 8 MB stick or just add 4? From an online installation guide it looks like it is dual slot so just getting 4 mb would work.

I have the 15-inch version and upgraded from 4GB to 8GB. I didn't notice as much an increase in performance as I did when I upgraded my iMac from 8GB to 16GB.

If your MBP is like mine, both DIMM slots were filled with 2GB sticks. I bought two 4GB sticks from OWC and returned the OEM 2GB sticks for a rebate.

Jon -

I don't have the latest model - my 15" MBP is a mid-2009 vintage - but I found that going from 4GB to 8GB made its performance much better.

Just as Mike did, I ordered 2 x 4 GB RAM sticks from OWC, and returned the originals for a rebate.
