With the standard 1:1 macro lens how much more magnification does one get with something like the canon 500D mounted? I did a search on the forum and didnt turn up what I was looking for, so does anyone have samples or stories to share?

Tim,

Nearly all of my aquarium shots have the 500D mounted on my Sigma 150 macro or Sigma 18-50 macro. If I remember correctly it increases magnification by 40%. I know that this shot was taken with the Sigma 150 with the 500D and 1.4X for 1.96X total.

The 500D I have is the 72mm. Let me know if you want to get together some time and try it for yourself.

Okay, this one is with the Sigma 150 macro and the 500D and is a 100% crop.

Oh, yeah. I should mention there may be a little image quality issue due to these both being shot through 1/2" glass and a few inches of rapidly moving water. Flash helped stop the movement. Light temperature was about 15,000K so white balance was adjusted too.

Understood Mike, looks good. The magnafication factor you listed is with it at 1:1? I had forgotten you mount the 500D, what filter size do you have? My tamron 90 is 55mm. I might have to swing by one of your aquarium shoots and just see what it looks like at various distances with and without if your ok with it. Thanks!

Mine is 72mm so you will need an adapter ring to use it on your lens. I'll let you know when the next shoot is scheduled. That could be fun!

Not the 500D but the 250D is just as fun.
