    How would a Nikon 85 f/1.4 work with a Cannon close-up lens 500 D as a macro lens?

  2. Probably just fine. The 500D is a very fine multi-element diopter. I use one on my 105/2DC and 180/2.8 occasionally when I don't have a macro with me.

No the 500D won't be fine, you need the 250D for that focal length.
  4. The 250D allows about 10" and the 500D about 19" so I agree that the 250D might be the better choice though the extra standoff is attractive and I'm not sure the 250D is available in 77mm.

i believe the 500d is designed for 70-300mm so it should work just fine on the 85....;-))
