We all know herons wear new color for their breeding seasons, but maybe the Chinese Pond Heron is the most spectacular. I always wonder how this :

    NIKON D200    ---    400mm    f/6.3    1/400s    ISO 200

    can become this!

    NIKON D200    ---    550mm    f/7.1    1/180s    ISO 200

    NIKON D200    ---    550mm    f/7.1    1/320s    ISO 200

    Thanks for looking!

The first image looks like an American Bittern.

Yea, it does look like the Green Heron. but I thnk it is bigger. This guy is about 18" tall.

    Oh yes, he's looking good.

Thanks Gale, the Pond Heron has white wings. I have never seen Bittern before, but do they have brown wings? I saw one all brown big bird flew by that day too.
