A very vocal "aren't they always" Male Belted Kingfisher. Video shot in 4K, best watched directly on YouTube. Images captured with the D500 and Sigma 500mm f4 sport in extremely low light, sun was ten minutes away from setting with overcast skies, shot at f4, ISO 1250, shutter speed 1250 "small dark high contrast fidgety bird shot wide open in less than optimal lighting conditions", exposure compensation +2/3. PP using DXOPhotolab2 and Affinity Photo.

I can see why they are hard to get close to - his eye never leaves you.

He is not really looking at me "does not even know I am there", he is constantly investigating his surroundings. I am hiding in one of these, blending in with my surroundings, on a slight decline at the edge of the pond, surrounded by woods and brush.
