Manfrotto 501 head for arca swiss plates?

Discussion in 'Other Cool Gear, Camera Bags, Camera Straps' started by Digimule, Apr 18, 2007.

  1. Hi,

I'm constantly thinking about a new head  for my AFS 4/300 plus TC 14E and found the Manfrotto 501. Seems to be handy for not-too-fast action, and it's not expensive.
The only caveat is: I use the Arca Swiss system, so will my Arca Swiss plates and especially my Kirk foot for the AFS 4/300 fit in the 501 head or is it for Manfrotto-type plates only?

  2. The 501 is a fluid head for video correct? I think the quick release plates are manfrotto only type.

You may be able to retrofit an arca compatible quick release, but it might require some extensive metal tooling. Not something I'd be comfortable doing myself since those QR plates are not cheap. Why not look into a Benro or Feisol head?
