Massive HoverFly

    someone told me these are hoverflys.. they are huge.. this is 1:1 on my sigma 105 hand held.. only way I could get this close was to hold the camera away from me and look threw the viewfinder and hold the shutterbutton down till it locked focus and shot..so the camera was about a 1ft or so from my eye and I could just see the hoverfly in the finder..

    Man that is one big fly:)

    So that's a "skipper". The one I shot had strips on its legs, looking like a zebra (couple of posts down). Tiny guys and gals:)

    Tim, excellent shots, the eye on the fly is the strangest shape, not round or oval, basically square, never saw anything quite like that before. - Jeff
     
  4. The fly is a Hover Fly (Merodon equestris - Narcissus bulb fly),.
