Memorial Day...............

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by seafoxfla, May 26, 2007.

  1. In memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

On Memorial Day lets all take a moment to reflect or to say a prayer for all our men and women in uniform past present and future.
  2. Amen brother. The freedoms we enjoy have come at a high price. The words "Thank You" seem insignificant in expressing the gratitude we should all feel towards those in uniform past present and future, regardless of our political beliefs.
  3. Faces of Memorial Day in my hometown...

Funny that I call it that...my hometown...given that we've been here just 4 years. But since my daughter has lived in 4 cities during her 8 years and we've been here the longest, that qualifies it. Plus it just feels like home. We had a bigger turnout than usual for our Memorial Day parade, which is nice to see.

The one thing my hometown lacks is racial diversity, so it was a welcome sight for this group to lead the parade...

Is it just me, or does this infant's dad look barely holder than the child himself?!

Those who can't march, ride (and they seem to enjoy themselves more than those who have to march )

Civil War vets?? I'm not sure who this group is, and I can't read their flag, but they were a neat addition to the parade this year.

And because I just can't resist....the firehouse got a new dalmatian puppy!! She is the cutest thing. Ignore the rotten photo and just imagine her all soft and cute and cuddly...I just adore puppies!

Thanks for sharing my Memorial Day! Though I didn't take any photos, I'm happy to say that the city Beautification Committee (of which Melissa and I are a part) finished planting around the county war memorial just in the nick of time...and it looked lovely, if I do say so myself, lol! Political feelings aside, I hope that everyone celebrated Memorial Day in their own way today. For us, it's a time for the community to come together, a day when our city feels smaller, and the common appreciation felt by all is nearly palpable. Those times are so rare that it's something I look forward to every year. Many of our fellow Beautification workers are vets themselves, so when we work around the memorial, they share their stories and put a face to the things I've only read about and my daughter's only vaguely aware of. It's a special time, indeed.

  4. AMEN. im stuck at work since the casino doesn't seem to recognize all the federal holidays. Atleast my boss is letting me leave a little early.

Many people dont know what Memorial Day is, they look at it as a day off from work, the start of summer, BBQ's and beers. But its to remember the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country and its people.

To the people who have passed on who was part of my life, fellow soldiers i served with, either personal friends or online friends, you will always be missed, and always remembered.

    In memory:

Spc. Mathew Baron US Army Afghanistan
